Ice Palace is a multipurpose sport and concert venue in St. Petersburg. It was built for the 2000 Ice Hockey World Championship and opened in 1999. It holds 12,300 people. Ice Palace is primarily used for ice hockey, and is the home arena for SKA St. Petersburg. It is also used as a skating rink and for concerts, exhibitions, conferences, corporation events with capacity up to 1000 persons etc. Ice Palace hosted the International Ice Hockey Federation European Champions Cup in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008.
Ice Palace is four-stored building with total area 37 000 m2 and seating capacity of 12 300 (74 boxes). Size of the hockey rink is 30×60 m. In the center of the hall there is a panel with 4 screens (each 3×4) and also 4 light-emitting diode displays (2×2). Square of the glass façade is 5 000 m2. There are about 30 cafes in the lobby. Reliable ventilation and air conditioning system provides comfort conditions in all weather.
During world championships a press center can be housed in the Press Hall (700 m2). Exceptionally you can organize banquets and buffets in this hall.
The Palace affords to hold seminar, conference and exhibition simultaneously. For this purpose there is a Press center with capacity of 300 persons, Conference room with capacity of 40 persons and Exhibition hall with area 3 000 m2.
Just within some hours the Great Hall (capacity of 11 762 persons) can be transformed into a Chamber hall with capacity of 6 126 persons. Transformation is possible with the help of black acoustic curtains which total cover the fourth circle of the Palace. Such draping creates effect of chamber hall. Chamber hall can be used for events with capacity of 5 000-6 000 persons i.e. classical music concerts, feature performances, corporate events etc.
