Sheremetev palace is a monument to Russian architecture of the XVIII. The palace is located on the northern shore of Neva river which was considered to be «suburbs» at that time. Therefore, the palace rather looks like a typical country mansion than a city palace. It has a beautiful fence made of cast iron, bearing the mascot of Sheremetev family on the arch. In 1967 the garden premises were built additionally. The palace is known also as the «Fountain House». This name was given to it by the outstanding Russian poet Anna Akhmatova who lived in one of the garden premises for more than 20 years. The museum dedicated to her is opened in the southern wing of the building**. The interiors of some of the apartment rooms have been restored according to the photographs and memories of the poet’s contemporaries. Also St. Petersburg State Museum of Theatre and Music is housed in the palace*.
The palace has a lovely garden where a lot of events in contemporary art take place, such as exhibitions of modern sculpture, celebrations and festivals.
