28th festival of Finnish Cinema in Saint-Petersburg

The first “Weeks of Finnish Cinema” was accompanied by sceptic remarks and condescending grins of the public. Time has proven that there is no place for any jokes about about cinema from the land of Suomi. People have come to respect Finnish cinema in Petersburg, having realized that not only Aki Kaurismiaki makes great interesting movies there, but also “our very own” Ville Haapasalo is popular in his homeland.

Finnish cinema has formed its own audience, a full house has become usual, and pragmatic film distributors have developed a lively interest in Finnish movies. The program traditionally consists of the best pictures filmed over the year. The festival opens with “Colorado Avenue” by Klaesa Ulssona – a Finnish version of “Gone with the Wind”. The already familiar Aleksi Miakelia, Aku Lauhimies and Raymo Niemi (incidentally, a graduate of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography) will present the films “Private Detective Vares-2: The Dead Angel”, “Probationer” and “Mystery of the Wolf”. Among the newcomers are Aleksi Salmenper with his “Men’s Work”, Olli Saarela with “ Year of the Wolf” and Yuhi Koyranen with his very personal story “Rock-n-roll Never Dies”.
Festival takes place in the “Rodina cinema center” from 30th November till 5th December.
