Mariinsky ( Kirov ) Theatre of Opera & Ballet

Mariinsky ( Kirov ) Theatre of Opera & Ballet stands in line with such splendid theatres as Bolshoi theatre in Moscow and La Scalo in Milan . The theatre attracts all classical and modern ballet and opera lovers from all over the world - a place of perfection, skill and inspiration. The best representatives of classic Russian ballet school well-known all around the world appear on its stage. The repertoir includes “Giselle”, “Nutcracker”, “ Swan Lake ” and others.
The auditorium of the Mariinsky is wonderfully impressive: the refined aristocratic range of colors composed of gilt molded decorations, white sculptures and blue velvet chairs, and the splendid three-tiered chandelier.

The Hermitage Theatre

The ceremonial opening of the Hermitage Theatre took place on November 22, 1785, giving both the actors and spectators a luxurious present. Apart from the magnificent interiors, the hall was noted for its excellent acoustic qualities. The spacious stage was well lit and equipped in keeping with the latest technical achievements, including «machines, trapdoors and transformers». There were makeup, dressing and orchestral rooms. Everything had been well thought out and equipped fittingly.

In 1894 Nicholas II ordered a repair of the Hermitage Theatre. During the course of this restoration, the wooden coverings were replaced with metal, the stage and floors were renovated, the spectators' benches were upholstered in dark red velvet, and the system of lighting for the hall and the stage lights was entirely changed. Stars such as Pavlova, Kshesinskaya, Shalyapin and Sobinov all graced the stage here.

Glinka Philarmonic Chamber Hall (Maly Glinka Hall)

Glinka Philarmonic Chamber Hall (Maly Glinka Hall) is situated on Nevsky Prospect in former “house of Mrs. Engelgardt”. The laureates of international competitions and winners in local festivals appear on the stage. The classic, chamber music is played there. The hall is intended mainly for soloists and not great ensembles.

St.Petersburg State Circus

St.Petersburg State Circus was the first Russian circus built in stone in 1877. Up to the revolution of 1917 this circus was named after the famous Italian artist of the XIX century Gaetano Cinizelli who had been the iniator of the of the building and later the owner and director of the circus.

Jazz Hall

In 1989 David Goloschokin - the famous Russian jazz musician - founded the State Jazz Philharmonic in St. Petersburg and as the artistic director managed to concentrate all local jazz life around the Philarmonic. He often performs with his band here, where his violin concerts are particularly successful. Concerts, propaganda of jazz music are featured.

Mussorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre

Mussorgsky Opera and Ballet Theatre occupies a special place in the cultural life of the city. Originally the theatre was conceived as an experimental theatre, a «laboratory of Soviet opera». Now it's noted for classic stagings of ballet and opera. Operas “Carmen”, “Barber of Seville”, “Prince Igor” and ballets “Les Sylphides”make up the main part of the theatre repertoire.

The Shostakovich Philharmonic Great Hall

The Shostakovich Philharmonic Great Hall today is one of the best concert halls all around the world. Traditional musical festivals such as “Musical spring in St Petersburg”, ‘Musical Olympus”, “Stars of White Nights”, “Christmas Meetings in North Palmyra” are held here annually. Numerous musicians and listeners from all countries of the world long for taking part in this wonderful action.
St Petersburg 's Philharmonic is one of the oldest Philharmonics in Russia . The most famous musicians of 19th and 20th centuries were played here such as Shuman, List, Viardo, Berlioz, Wagner, Sarasate; all famous Russian composers – Borodin, Rimsky-Korsakov, Chaikovsky, Rakhmaninov, Glazunov, Prokofiev, Shostakovich, Sviridov, Schedrin, Petrov were on its stage too.

St.Petersburg Conservatory continues traditions of Russian theatrical art. Different performances and concerts with participation of well-known actors of Russia and other countries are held on its stage.
