Peter and Paul's Fortress The fortress was build to protect the area from possible attack by the Swedish army and navy. It contains several notable buildings clustered around the Peter and Paul Cathedral. Cathedral is the burial place of all Russian tsars from Peter I to Alexander III, with the exception of Peter II. Breakfast in the hotel Excursion in Yusupov Palace (or Stroganov Palace) Yusupov palace went down in Russian history as the place where the mysterious monk Grigory Rasputin was assassinated. The tragedy took place in the private room of the young Prince Felix Yusupov, now housing a historical exhibit recreating the assassination scene. or The Stroganovs were one of St. Petersburg's richest and most-powerful families during the 18th centure. Their palace, which is now a branch of the Russian Museum, was designed by Rastrelli. The palace contains a rich collection of paintings and wax figures. The nucleus of the Museum collection consisted of oil painting, sculpture, graphic art, decorative and applied art.
